What’s in a name? Behind every product and company you know, lies a story rich with history regarding their name. Names have always been a source of information about a person, place or company and can tell a lot about one’s origin, personality, and even manifesto. The name “Thuasne” has a history of its own: one of excellence, longevity and known for being family-oriented.

Maurice Thuasne was born in 1882 and died in 1976, at the age of 94. He gave his name to the company that has become a major player in textile medical devices in Europe today. Because of his education as an engineer and his industrial vision, Maurice Thuasne strategically oriented the activities of the family business toward the medical sector. He managed the Thuasne Group for 73 years.

A knight of France’s Légion d’honneur and a recipient of the Croix de Guerre 1914-1918, he was also President of the Chambre Syndicale in Saint-Etienne.

Today led by Maurice Thuasne’s granddaughter, Elizabeth Ducottet, the Thuasne family-owned industrial group – established in 1847 – is worth 264 million dollars. Forty percent of the profits come from international earnings, including from the US, the Thuasne Group currently employs 2,100 people worldwide.

In a short amount of time, Thuasne has become a global player with a recognized technological, scientific and industrial know-how in the main healthcare markets. The Thuasne Group is present in 85 countries through 15 subsidiaries and more than 40 distributors. Five international patents are registered per year. The Group has 14 industrial sites worldwide.
