Randall Peeters was the eighth person in the world to climb the highest peaks on each continent, known as the seven summits. He is among an even more elite group to have also completed expeditions to the North Pole and South Pole. Many of these accomplishments came after experiencing numerous knee injuries and being diagnosed with severe degenerative osteoarthritis. Nearly two decades ago, Randall was told he needed knee replacement surgery. But if he had the surgery, he would have had to give up his extreme activities. Instead of surgery, Randall decided to try wearing an OA knee brace to reduce his knee pain and enable him to continue mountain climbing, skiing, surfing, biking, and other adventurous activities. Randall’s story teaches us about personal determination and continuing to pursue your dreams. At age 71, he is a living testament to the benefits of wearing a Townsend OA knee brace. While your activity goals are probably far less lofty than Randall’s, it is possible (even if you have OA and daily knee pain) to participate in health-enhancing activities according to the recommendations of your physician.
